Frequently asked questions
How much will my English course cost?
English course fees depend on the English course type (General or Intensive), study length, and whether you choose online or in-person, plus any registration or accommodation fees.
For the fastest and most accurate price, use our quick quote form here.
In general, studying English in Glasgow is 40% cheaper than studying English in Edinburgh or London.
Not sure about your English level, or how long you will need to study for to reach your goal? You can take a free English level test here.
Do I need a visa to study in the UK?
Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality, course length, and your reason for travel. The quickest and most reliable way to check is on the UK Government’s official visa checker.
We can provide the documents we’re allowed to provide (for example, a visa support letter where applicable), but we can’t advise on visa types or immigration decisions.
You can check if you need a visa on the British Government’s official page.
Can you help me apply for a UK visa?
We can support your application by providing an official letter of acceptance for students applying for a Standard Visitor visa or a Short-term study visa (where applicable). You can include this letter in your visa application as evidence of your course booking.
Please note: we cannot provide immigration advice or apply for a visa on your behalf. Visa rules and required documents depend on your nationality and personal circumstances, so you should always check the latest guidance on the UK Government website.
To request your letter of acceptance, you’ll normally need to have completed your booking and payment (and provide your passport details).
When can I start (start dates and intakes)?
You can start your English course any Monday throughout the year, so it’s easy to join at a time that suits you.
If you’d prefer to begin at the start of a new course book, we also offer four term start dates each year (these are ideal if you want to follow the syllabus from the very beginning).
Please note: Live Language is closed for two weeks over the Christmas holidays each year, so courses do not run during that period.
Do I need to pay in full, or can I pay a deposit/payment plan?
Payment options depend on the course you choose and your country of residence. In many cases, you can pay in full upfront to confirm your booking. For some students and courses, we may also be able to offer a deposit or payment plan, depending on your circumstances and the course start date.
The quickest way to confirm what’s available for you is to request a quote and tell us:
your chosen course
your start date (or preferred start month)
your current country of residence
Then we’ll confirm the payment options that apply to you.
Are there any registration fees or extra costs?
Yes — there may be registration fees and optional extra costs, depending on the course you choose and whether you’d like support arranging accommodation.
Possible additional costs can include:
A registration fee (varies by course type)
Optional accommodation placement/support fees if you’d like us to help you find affordable accommodation (such as homestay or residence options)
Any optional extras you choose (for example, activities or exam fees, if applicable)
For the most accurate total cost, we recommend requesting a quick quote and telling us:
which course you want to book
how many weeks you plan to study
whether you need help with accommodation
What is included in the English course fee?
Your course fee includes much more than classroom lessons — we aim to offer excellent value and a full learning experience in and out of class.
Depending on your course, your fee can include:
English lessons with qualified, experienced teachers
Course materials (or guided access to the materials you’ll use in class)
Access to Conversation Clubs to practise speaking and build confidence
Free online English courses (where available) to support your progress outside class
A range of social activities and student events to help you practise English in real-life situations and feel part of the community
Ongoing support and guidance from our team during your studies
