100% Online CELTA

Interested in doing a CELTA qualification but stuck at home? Don’t worry – we are now offering a 100% online CELTA course, so you can gain your certificate without ever leaving the house!
As a result of the COVID-19 situation, many of us have been staying at home and have not been able to go to our places of work or study. Many people have had to move their studies online. Only yesterday, Cambridge University announced that all lectures will be online-only until summer of 2021. At Live Language, we already have an abundance of experience in teaching successful face-to-face and online blended CELTA courses. Now, we are delighted to be able to offer a fully 100% online CELTA course. We have been given permission to run this type of course by Cambridge Assessment English as a temporary measure at this time.
Who is the CELTA for?
- New teachers starting their career whether teaching face-to-face or online
- First-language English speakers and non-first-language speakers
- Teachers with some experience who want to develop their skills
- Teachers who want to travel and teach English
How is the methodology on the course taught?
The methodology of the CELTA course is taught through a variety of live Zoom sessions, led by the course tutors. These interactive Zoom sessions will cover many topics, from teaching reading, to teaching grammar, to teaching young learners to teaching exam classes. These sessions will take place every morning and will include a lot of pair and group discussions, helping to prepare you for the teaching practice element of the course.
How is the Teaching Practice assessed on the course?
All teaching practice on the course will be completed through Zoom. You will get the chance to teach 4 lessons of 45-minutes with a lower-level group of learners and 4 lessons of 45-minutes with a higher-level group of learners. All 8 of these lessons are assessed and you are given both written and oral feedback after each lesson, to help you to prepare for the next one. You do not need to have any assessed teaching until Week 2 of the course, to allow you to go through training on how to use Zoom and to watch some example Zoom lessons. You will also have the opportunity to get to know your learners and teach and get feedback on one unassessed lesson in Week 1.
Are there any other assessments?
Over the course, you also need to complete four written assignments. Each assignment has a different focus and are all 750-1,000 words long.
Is the final qualification different because it’s done online?
No – the certificate you receive on successful completion of the course is exactly the same whether you do the CELTA course online or face-to-face. The CELTA certificate is the most widely recognised English teaching qualification in the world and is the qualification most often requested by employers.
What other benefits are there of taking the CELTA online?
- No travel costs
- No accommodation fees
- All materials included in the course fees
- The course is run over five weeks, but there will be four contact days per week, allowing one day during the week to work on lesson planning, written assignments etc.
What technical requirements are there?
- A reliable internet connection
- A desktop computer or laptop
- A web cam on or attached to the device you are using
- An integrated microphone in the device you are using or an attached headset
- A quiet and comfortable place where you can work uninterrupted for up to 3 hours
