Student interview – Ahmed Abuhatira from Libya

Ahmed Abuhatira is 29 and comes from Zintan in Libya. He is studying for IELTS and preparing for a Masters at English UK member centre, Live Language in Glasgow.

Hello Ahmed, what brought you to improve your English in Glasgow?

I am on a preparation course because I am planning to go to university next year and I need an IELTS score of 6.5. I want to study for a Masters in HVAC. That’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning. I did a Higher National Diploma in this subject in Liverpool.

I decided to come to the UK then because I like your system of education more than in my home country, and because sometimes I feel homesick and it is only two hours to fly back. I like that better than Canada or America.

Why did you choose Live Languages?

A friend of mine told me about it and that there were good staff and teaching facilities so I took the decision to come here. The weather’s fantastic!

Has anything surprised you about the UK?

When I was in Liverpool I found the accent very difficult to understand to be honest. But I did manage and the people were lovely.

What will you do when you complete your Masters?

I will go straight back to my job. I am sponsored by the organisation I work for.
